Talk like a Penangite (Part 1)

One thing I like to do when I’m travelling is learn the local language of the country I’m visiting. It helps me understand more of the country’s culture. Who else here finds languages really fascinating? I know I do! So, let’s dive in, shall we?

First of all, Penangites are very friendly. We commonly address people as:
LENGLUI (Length loy): Beautiful girl
Can be used for ages 12-35
LENGZAI (Length chi – chi as in China): Handsome guy
Can be used for ages 12-35
BOSS: Literally boss
Can be used for shop owners/ waiters/ waitresses/ your employer
BROTHER: Literally brother
Can be used for shop owners/ waiters/ friends/ your real brother
ENDAO BA (End tao baa – baa as in baa baa black sheep): Handsome guy
Can be used for ages 12-35
So now you know a little something about how the locals address each other, mix and mingle!
